Ecstatic Dance East Bay celebrates one year

Ecstatic Dance East Bay turns one year old this Saturday, May 24th with a party at the Historic Sweet’s Ballroom that will go beyond the usual 3-4 hours and extend until 6pm. I wish I could make it!

This morning I got news that Pattahbi Jois, the grandfather of the demanding yoga practice known today as Ashtanga, passed away in India hours earlier. I have many acquaintances from the years I’ve practiced and taught that studied with him in Mysore, so I know this piece of news will sadden many in the yoga world.

City ambassadors needed for National yoga month

Last September was the launch of the new Yoga Month campaign by the Yoga Health Foundation, which aims to get the word out on yoga and its health benefits, bringing it to a national level as a health observance. Yoga Month imitates Dance Week, striving to get teachers across U.S. cities to offer free classes.

Yoga now a national health observance

How cool is this? Thanks to Johannes Fisslinger, President of the Yoga Health Alliance, the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion now recognizes September as National yoga month.
