It’s been good to be back in the bay area, where so many interesting folks working on healthy food cross my path. Now that my place is a bit more set up, I can set off to wander and get lost in what’s happening in the neighborhood, whether it’s on a leisurely stroll, on my bike, out in the park, or at a random event.

Two projects that came my way recently:

www.worldfoodgarden.org -An ambitious project striving to map out gardens and resources for gardeners worldwide! I met Founder Eve hooping at Dolores Park together. Eve is the gardener at the new SF couchsurfing house so I’ll probably go there and help her out a bit one of these mornings. She lived in Brooklyn for a while and is friends with a girl band I know called Moisturizer. : )

and

http://www.freefarmstand.org – This project has given away up to 4402.2 pounds of produce for free in the Mission this year. Isn’t that awesome? I wish I would have gotten some free figs this last weekend, I haven’t wanted to pay $5 for a basket. I love that fresh produce is given for free, and that opportunities to help out and garden are posted daily.

Thanks to Laura Parker, an artist whose studio I visited at Art Span’s Open Studios for the heads up on the free produce project at 23rd and Treat. Culinate has a cool feature on Laura’s work, which combines agriculture, food, and art. At Open Studios, she sampled dirt tastings and showed her work on mindful eating to her fans. Only in the bay area!
