If you’re out in New York during the summer, make sure to check out the best outdoor dance party in the city, Turntables on the Hudson, which is celebrating its 10th year anniversary. Its founder, the legendary DJ Nickodemus, will be celebrating a new CD release with a party that I’m sure will be a good time (free if you email sunpeople@nickodemus.com to get on the list). Nickodemus is known to mix funky beats with “urban sounds” and world music.

Every Friday this summer you can find him with DJ Mariano & Nappy G. at Water Taxi Beach. Guest musicians join in from time to time, including DJ Wiseacre in July, who splits his time in NY and LA, and I definitely recommend if ya wanna get down!

This year’s Northern California (13th) Earthdance sounds even better to me than the Harmony festival with a line-up that includes one of my favorite party DJs from Rubulad parties in Brooklyn (and Club APT), Ursula 1000, Lyrics Born, Goddess Alchemy Project, India Arie, and Nickodemus!

Conscious wedding

Saturday was a magical day celebrating the wedding of my friends Mark and Aspen from Conscious Dancer magazine. We couldn’t have had better weather going out on a boatride on the San Francisco Bay; it was clear, sunny, and warm. It was an intimate gathering with friends and family, and definitely one of the most blessed days I’ve had all year.

The ceremony took place on board and the reception was potluck-style back in the east bay. I loved the local, sustainable food touch. I felt each dish was full of love with drinks like home-made apple juice from Humboldt to local strawberries and cheese and an scumptous dessert from Cafe Gratitude.

I met Mark and An when they were first creating their magazine and I was selling my raw cacao treats at the New Living Expo. Sharing a love for living foods, 5 rhythms dance, electronic beats, and holistic health, we became instant friends. Right from the get-go, they welcomed me into their vision, their community, and their home.

Since then we’ve collaborated on a photo shoot together, worked a booth promoting the magazine at Earthdance, and shared good times (with their great Kombucha creations) at Dance Jam, Groove Garden, and Cafe Gratitude. I’m so grateful to have connected with them and watch their vision come alive, which now includes their cute baby girl Geneva.

I enjoyed the interview with Gabrielle Roth, (founder of 5 rhythms dance), in their latest magazine issue. Contents include inspirational articles that cover wellness, reviews, and much more through a dance lover’s perspective.
