“Living vegan for Dummies”

I’m reading “Living Vegan for Dummies” by Chef and Nutritionist Alex Jamieson, and so far I think it’s a great beginner’s guide to the vegan lifestyle. Written in the typical Dummies style, the book is broken up into sections that are easy to read, isn’t preachy, and has a sense of humor. It does a great job discussing the more complicated matters of renouncing animal products too, from dietary questions to socializing and being vegan on the go.

Many people are confused about what soy products are nutritionally beneficial, how to incorporate soy in one’s diet, and whether some products are actually harmful. Alex manages to break down the soy controversy. She explains the importance of sticking to organic, fermented soy foods like miso and tempeh, and avoiding potentially harmful GMO-containing products with soy isolate.

The recipes from this book, as well as the older Uncheese Book, are really pumping me up to make some nut cheeses soon.
