Hard-boiled, scrambled, or over-easy, eggs are full of nourishing protein. They’re pretty tasty too. I don’t know that I’ll eat them forever with my aspirations towards a complete plant-based diet, but I do love mine with tomato and arugula or avocado on a sprouted wheat bagel with pesto and cayenne pepper.
The thing with eggs – especially . . . → Read More: An ethical egg label: does it exist?

Crazy the stuff I’m reading on these Iowa egg factories. So far they’re responsible for 500 million recalled eggs and 1500 illnesses. Not only are the conditions there totally slimy with rodents and maggots, but so is the company for employing illegal immigrant children, polluting, and causing up to 11 sexual harrasment lawsuits. Here’s a round-up of some of my favorite man-made leather, cruelty-free shoes for the season. I’m a shoe fanatic and over the years, I try to avoid leather as much as possible for reasons listed on the PETA site when it’s not necessary.

SF volunteer’s commitment brings trees to the city’s urban landscape
For all our eco-awareness here in the Bay Area, our standard-bearing city of San Francisco is remarkably short on trees. Shady, life-giving greenery covers a mere 12% of the city – and chances are, if you pass by one of these precious trees, Charlie Starbuck had a . . . → Read More: Charlie Starbuck’s Green Thumb

A lot is happening in the world of fair trade. Some of it is still new to me, and I’m keeping up through Transfair – one of the biggest organizations involved. I’m so glad for dolphin activist Ric O’Barry and TakePart that the The Cove crew is Oprah’s Earth Day pick today! The Oscar-award winning documentary on Japan’s dolphin hunting has got to be one of the most disturbing films I’ve seen in years. Thanks to their Cause page and the power of the web, the film’s . . . → Read More: “The Cove” makes it on Oprah for Earth Day! So does Plastiki

Earlier this week I attended what was probably one of the most touching ceremonies I’ve ever been to. My friend Nina who I work with at Tcho invited me to the Goldman Prize award ceremony right here in San Francisco.
